Lorida, FL- Virginia “Gingie” Anne Cummins

Virginia “Gingie” Anne (Keller) Cummins passed away after a brief illness on February 17, 2023 at Kindred Hospital in Melbourne, FL.

Gingie was born January 16, 1943 in Olean to Charles and Janet (Faulkner) Keller.

Gingie was a graduate of Olean High School and worked for multiple businesses over the course of her life, including The Cogswell, Icky’s Cookies, and Olean Steel Sales. She also worked at the Cummins Cider Mill in Portville, NY, which she co-owned with her third husband, LaVerne Cummins. In later years, she worked for H&R Block in Sebring, FL before opening her own tax preparation business in her home in Lorida, FL.  Gingie was well known around the Olean area from her long time operation of the doughnut room at the Cider Mill. Although she and her husband sold the mill in 1989, people would still approach her when she was in the area and relate fond memories of their experiences there.

In the early part of her life, she was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Olean and, after taking up residence in Florida full time, she joined the Church of the Brethren in Lorida, Florida where she was very active in many facets of church life.  She had a great sense of humor and was very generous with her time. When not helping others with their taxes, she spent a large amount of time sewing, quilting, and canning food to give to her many friends and family.

Gingie is survived by a daughter, Joann (Vandernick/Cummins) Lipka of Olean, and grandchildren, Brian-Charles R. Lovell of Troy, NY, Kylene M. Lovell of Norfolk, VA, Zackary-James W. Lipka and Jenna J. Lipka, both of Olean, as well as many cousins, other grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Gingie was predeceased by her parents, her brother, John R. Keller, three husbands, Larry D. Oakley Sr., Elmo F. Vandernick and LaVerne W. Cummins, her daughter, Linda J. (Oakley/Cummins) Lovell, and step-daughters, Dawn (Cummins) Tracey and Shirley (Cummins) Davison.

A memorial service will be held at the Hillside Wesleyan Church, 753 Prospect Ave, Olean on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11:00am.  The Rev. Dan Todd will officiate.  Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Portville.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean.
