Sr. Anne Martin Robonie, OSF

November 18, 1934 – August 11, 2026

Born: Mary Claire Robonie, November 18, 1934, in San Jose, Calif.

Died: August 11, 2026 at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, NY

Daughter of: Lt. John and Marie (Apton) Robonie

Sister Anne Martin Robonie entered the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany on October 4, 1951; was received into the Congregation on August 15, 1952; and professed her final vows on August 16, 1959. For over 75 years, she faithfully lived her vows to God through her ministry and life in community.

Due to her father’s career as a member of the US Navy, the family moved to various locations; therefore, Anne attended several schools. In 1947, she graduated from Little Flower Elementary School in Solomons, Md. The family settled in Rochester, NY in 1949 where she completed her high school education at Nazareth Academy in 1951. Upon entering the Franciscan Sisters, she pursued a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Social Studies from St. Bonaventure University. She furthered her education at Cortland State College (now SUNY Cortland) and was awarded an MS in Education.

For over 50 years, Sister was involved in Elementary Education. For the first 10 years, she ministered in Congregational schools in NY State (Buffalo, Averill Park and St. John School, Olean). The following 40 years, she spent as a Missionary sharing her administration skills, love and faith with the people of Jamaica. She was dearly loved by all the people she served!

She returned to the US in 2005 to retire in Tampa, Fla.; however, that was not in her vocabulary at the time, so she assumed responsibility of driver/shopper. Anne shared her time and talents with the retired Sisters in St. Elizabeth Convent and they were delighted.

In 2020, Sr. Anne was warmly welcomed home to St. Elizabeth Motherhouse in Allegany, where she enjoyed the company of her Sisters. Anne kept her mind and hands busy doing crafts, playing board games and winning at Bingo.

She is predeceased by her parents, Lt. John and Marie Robonie, her twin sister, Theresa Robonie, and her sister Juanita (Richard) Wirth. She is survived by her sister, Roberta (William) Jackson; niece Christine Sheehan and children, Sophia, Phoebe and Ben; Dave (Kathy) Jackson and daughter Lucy; and Paul Jackson.
