Olean- Robert J. “Bob” Heavener

Robert J. Heavener, 89, of Olean for the past eight years, died June 17, 2026, at Cuba Memorial Hospital, after an extended illness.

Bob was born in 1937 in Ilion and was the son of Howard and Estella Zelie Heavener. He grew up near Williamsville but lived most of his life in the Southern Tier of Western NY.

Bob earned an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State Behrend. He worked in electronics sales and support, broadcast technology, and in his last position, sales of avionics products at PM Research in Wellsville. Bob was in the Air Force Reserves for two years as a radio technician.

Hunting, backpacking, canoeing, and observing wildlife were among his favorite activities. Bob had a lifelong interest in aviation, and held a commercial rated pilot license, but flew as a private pilot. He also flew gliders for a time. Bob was also a lifelong ham radio operator, call sign W3IAG.

Bob is survived by; one sister, Ruth Heavener, of Morgantown, WV, three nephews, two nieces, and several great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna M. Mason, and Carol Ann Crabb.

A gathering of remembrance will be held later in the summer for family and friends. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean. Online condolences may be made at www.letromcintoshspinkfuneralhome.com
