Olean – Mitchell J. Simon "Loving Father & Grandfather" Mitchell J. Simon, of 314 North 8th Street, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021, at his home following a brief illness. Mitchell was born on May 1, 1951 in Olean and was a son of Alexander Joseph and Lillian Catherine Lazarz Simon. On July 21, 1984, in Olean, he married his wife of 36 years, Donna M. Barie, who survives. Mitchell was a 1969 graduate of Arch Bishop Walsh High school. He attended Corning Community College and graduated from SUNY Brockport earning a Bachelor's in education. Mitchell worked for St. Bonaventure University in the food service for 15 years, and he worked at the Athletic Attic and as a second job. He then went to work at Cattaraugus County in Little Valley as a Data Processing Clerk for about 25 years, retiring in 2016. Following his retirement, Mitchell lived his "best golf life ever." He played at Birch Run, where he was a member for many years, or anywhere someone wanted to play. Mitchell played softball for Don's Tavern and fast-pitch for the Wooden Nickel for 20 years. He was an avid sports fan, and he loved rooting for the New York Yankees, the Buffalo Bills, the Bonnies, and the Oilers. Along with his loving wife, Donna, Mitchell is survived by, 3 children, Amanda L. Simon and Alex R. (Kelsie) Simon both of Olean, and Barbara A. (Robert) Rosati of Niagara Falls, and a granddaughter, Juniper B. Simon. A Private gathering was held by the family.
