Merwyn R. “Bob” Brenton III of Olean passed away peacefully on Monday, May 4, 2026, at his home.

Bob was born on September 24, 1937, in Chicago, IL. He was the son of Merwyn and Dorothy Deke Brenton II. On November 10, 1973, he married Diane Haskins, who predeceased him on August 22, 2012.

Bob attended Lane Tech High School, Colorado School of Mines and served in the US Army. He was dedicated to his career with CF Industries, both in Olean and in Long Grove, IL. After retiring in 2000, he enjoyed many years of travel with his loving wife. His family was the center of his life; he lovingly cared for his wife of 38 years through her final illness.

Bob is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth (William Zalot) Brenton of Portville and Ann Marie (Chris) Brooks of Lakemoor, IL.; three grandchildren, Justin, Arcade (Ryan) and Brandon; a sister, Sharon (Bob) Stuart, as well as many nephews, nieces, great nieces, and great nephews.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Diane, and a sister, Kay Book in 2019.

A celebration of life gathering will be held at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean on Monday, May 11, 2026, from 2:00 to 3:00pm at which time a service will be held. Mrs. Linda Longo, a close friend of the family, will officiate. A private family graveside service will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Belfast. Flowers are gratefully accepted.
