PORTVILLE – Melvin Joseph “Joe” Swanson

Melvin Joseph “Joe” Swanson, a lifelong resident of Portville, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024, at his residence from natural causes at the age of 68. 

Born December 29, 1955, in Olean, he was the son of Melvin and Pearl Swanson. Joe was formerly married to Pamela R. Martin Zielinski. 

 He graduated from Portville Central School in 1975 and served in the Army from 1975 to 1979. He was previously employed by Hysol and Cooper Power Industries. In his later years, Joe enjoyed woodworking, fishing, riding his bike, watching his grandchildren play sports and tinkering in the woodshop. 

Joe is survived by his two daughters; Katie (James) Bush and Kellie (Timothy) Krzos, both of Portville; five grandchildren, Mason, Owen, Emmett, Kora, and Quinn; his sister Caroline (Kurt) Miller of Portville; his brother Merwin “Skip” (Treca) Swanson of West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

 He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Rita Ann Lengvarsky. 

A memorial service will be held at the Portville Bethel Lutheran Church at 79 Brookyln Street on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 10:00am. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean. Online condolences may be made at www.letromcintoshspinkfuneralhome.com
