Mary Ellen Hanbach of Olean passed away unexpectedly at her home on January 8, 2026.
Mary Ellen was born on August 8, 1950, to Edward C. and Ellen C. Fleming Hanbach Sr.
Mary Ellen graduated from Greenwood Central School, OBI, and BOCES LPN program. She worked for St. Joseph’s manor from 1980-2006, Eden Heights from 2006-2019, she was a hostess at Texas Hots, Augustini’s Parkwood Tavern and Air Preheater from 1969-1972.
Mary Ellen loved her family and friends. She enjoyed walking around Olean and was the biggest Buffalo Bills fan. She could be found on game day alternately yelling at them and cheering them on. She loved to dance and had the biggest heart and an even bigger sense of humor. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Mary Ellen is survived by her son, Michael (Dawn) Lewis, grandchildren, Brysen, Bryan, Katlyn, and Brittany, her siblings, Joanne Sonnleitner, Jeanne Baker, Ann Hanbach, Peggy (Phil) Delill, Patricia (Mike) Cheeseman, Alice (Ron) Allsworth, Ed (Mercedes) Hanbach, John (Sue) Hanbach, Tom (Penny) Hanbach, several nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Mary Ellen was predeceased by her parents, a granddaughter, Kristian Taylor, and brothers in law, Merle Sonnleitner and Jim Baker.
A celebration of life will be held at the family’s discretion according to her wishes. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean. Online condolences may be made at www.letromcintoshspinkfuneralhome.com
