Allegany- Jean “Jeannie” (Welch) Davis
Jean "Jeannie" Davis, 77, of Allegany, passed peacefully at home on Monday, September 14, 2026, following a brief illness, surrounded by her family in a space filled with love and music.
Born on June 19, 1949, in Olean, she was the firstborn daughter of the late Chester and Celestine McLaughlin Welch. Jeannie was a 1968 graduate of Archbishop Walsh High School.
To have known Jeannie was to love her. She was genuine, thoughtful, warm, and funny with a heart for helping others. She did things her own way and was always looking for ways to volunteer her time and make sure the people around her felt cared for.
She found joy in the simple pleasures of gardening, antiquing, and thrifting, often discovering unexpected gifts and treasures to bring a smile and a good laugh to the people she loved. She was happiest in the kitchen cooking for family and friends. Every Wednesday was Survivor night. And every Sunday belonged to the Buffalo Bills. She loved basketball, the WNBA, and her Lady Bonnies. But most of all, Jeannie loved music.
Music lived in Jeannie's heart.
She was a concertgoer and a live-music chaser, the one shaking a tambourine in the crowd, wearing her own "Jean Jeannie" party hat, and finding her way backstage. Music was never just something she listened to. It was part of who she was.
Jeannie cherished her people, and she was, without question, one of a kind. Her warmth, humor, and generosity touched everyone who knew her, and she leaves behind family and friends who will keep telling her stories, laughing at her jokes, and finding her handwritten cards tucked in drawers for years to come.
Jeannie is survived by her two sons, Michael (Gina) Brady of Allegany, and Shane (Erin Klarer) Davis of Austin, TX; three proudly adored grandsons, Kellan, Nash, and Beckham Brady; four siblings: James (Sandi) Welch of Hinsdale, Celeste (Mark) Taber of Madison, WI; Fred (Kathy) Welch of Olean, and Tom (Bonnie) Welch of Charleston, SC; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, her aunts, and many special friends.
