Cuba– Marian J. Freer “Loving Wife, Mother & Grandmother”

Marian J. Freer of 3706 Emerson, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at the Cuba Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility.

Born on May 12, 1936, in the coastal beauty of Vancouver, British Columbia, Marian was a child of the sea and sky. She grew up surrounded by ocean breezes and mountain views—experiencing all the wonder that a West Coast childhood could offer. She was the daughter of Donald C. and Lilian Alta Grace Barnes Holtz. With characteristic courage, she journeyed across Canada and found herself in Toronto, where fate introduced her to the love of her life, Kenneth “Kenny” Freer. Together, they would write a story of enduring love and faith.

Eventually settling in Olean and then Cuba, New York, Marian and Ken built a home grounded in devotion—to each other, to family, and to Dr. Freer’s chiropractic practice, which became a cornerstone of their shared purpose. They didn’t just live life side by side; they wove their days together with tenderness, laughter, and a deep commitment that was both inspiring and unwavering.

To know Marian was to encounter a boundless enthusiasm for life. Her interests were as vast as her kindness. A voracious reader, she transformed reading from a hobby into a way of life, often encouraging others to discover new authors and ideas. The Olean Public Library practically had her name etched in its walls. She was also a legendary hostess—her kitchen a laboratory of culinary delight, her home echoing with the sounds of music, lively conversation, and well-fed guests.

Creative to her core, Marian painted the world with her love of quilting, cross-stitch, and music. She had a brilliant mind and a wit that could catch you off guard. While she may not have conquered the world of sewing, she never stopped trying—her curiosity and willingness to learn was simply part of her charm. Summers found her in her happy place: sunlit afternoons, a chilled drink, and a good book in hand. And even though war movies and golf weren’t quite her taste, she lovingly shared in the things Ken loved—because love, for Marian, was always about showing up.

Above all, Marian lived her faith deeply and sincerely. Her life was a quiet, steadfast witness to the grace and mercy of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Today, we believe with certainty that she is in His presence—rejoicing, whole, and surrounded by heavenly music that echoes the love she carried in her soul.

Marian is lovingly remembered by her husband, Dr. Kenneth H. Freer; her son, Dr. Patrick K. (Kevin Sullivan) Freer of Atlanta, GA; her daughters, Rev. Alexandra L. Freer of Cuba, NY, and Samantha J. Speede of Vienna, VA; her grandsons, beloved nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of friends who were drawn in by her warmth, humor, and radiant light.

Her absence leaves an ache—but her spirit lingers in every book passed hand to hand, every note of a favorite song, every act of hospitality or courage done in her memory. Marian’s light may have left this world, but it lives on in all who loved her.

Services will be held at a date and time to be announced. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba. Online condolences may be made at www.LetroMcIntoshSpinkFuneralHome.com.
