Allegany- Margaret G. Parker “Loving Mother, Grandmother & Great Grandmother”

Margaret G. Parker, 94, of Allegany, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at The Pines Cattaraugus County Nursing Home in Olean, where she had resided since July 2023.

Born on September 4, 1930, in Gowanda, Margaret was the daughter of James B. and Myrtle E. (Doan) Gregory. She was a 1948 graduate of Cattaraugus Central School and spent her early years in Cattaraugus. On November 22, 1952, she married Orin E. Parker in Cattaraugus. The couple moved to Allegany shortly after their wedding and, in 1954, made their longtime home at 41 North 2nd Street. Orin predeceased her on August 31, 2016.

Before starting her family, Margaret worked at Acme Electric Corporation. Later, she found fulfillment as a teacher’s aide at Allegany Central School, where she supported blind students. She also dedicated many years of service to the Cattaraugus County Board of Elections, working the polls on election days.

Margaret was deeply involved in her community. She was a longtime board member and dedicated volunteer with the Allegany Area Historical Association. She was also a devoted member of Christ United Methodist Church in Olean, where she generously gave her time to various church activities. Additionally, Margaret was a proud longtime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

In her leisure time, Margaret enjoyed knitting, cross-stitch, crocheting, and researching her family’s genealogy—interests that reflected both her creativity and her deep appreciation for history and heritage.

She is survived by four sons: Gregory E. (Crystal) Parker of Lake Placid, Gerald B. (Deborah) Parker of Port Charlotte, FL, Robert A. (Kathy) Parker of Allegany, and Kevin J. (Kelley) Parker of Brewerton; four grandchildren: G. Brian (Keely) Parker of Liverpool, Matthew Parker of Sherwood, OR, Chad (Kristina) Parker of Baldwinsville, and Conner Parker of Laurel, MD; and seven great-grandchildren: Brian, Camren, Montana, Emma, Madelyn, Dakota, and Piper.

In addition to her husband, Orin on August 31, 2016, and her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her brother, Lynford L. Gregory, and two sisters, Edna F. Eddy and Beulah L. Ambuske.
