Rochester- Katherine E. “Kay” Kautz

After a remarkable 101 years of being deeply loved, and just two days shy of her 102nd birthday, Kay Kautz passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. She is now reunited with her beloved husband W. Oscar, and her son David, both who preceded her in death.

Kay was born on January 9, 1924, in Bradford and was the daughter of Joseph and Anna Melinchak Ogurchak. On December 2, 1946, in Bradford she married Walter “Oscar” Kautz, who predeceased her on May 5, 1993.

Kay lived a full and vibrant life centered on love, faith, and family. She was a devoted wife and mother whose many interests included baking, sewing, gardening, fishing, bridge, and round dancing — a recreation she joyfully shared with Oscar as they traveled, danced, and taught others together. Kay excelled at her favorite passion, which was crafting (stained glass, cards, jewelry, ceramics, watercolor, florals). Her energy and independence were remarkable; she attended the YMCA daily until age 96 and continued mowing her lawn until age 97! Kay’s faith guided her life and served as a lasting example of kindness, integrity, and compassion.

Kay is survived by her daughters Diane Kannel, Carol Kautz (Roy Luna), Susan Mark, Anna Potter; and her grandchildren Donna Post, Cora Mayo, Joseph Kannel, Douglas Potter (Rachael), Emily Brock (Jordan), and her great-grandchildren Brennan Mayo, Grayson, Breck, and Rylan Potter, niece Margaret Shavalier and nephew Daniel Shavalier.

Family will receive friends at The Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, 646 East State Street, Olean on Tuesday, January 13th, from 12 – 1 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30 pm at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels Church, 202 South Union Street, Olean. Interment will follow in Allegany cemetery.
