Olean- Gerald E. Howard “Loving Father, Grandfather & Brother”
Gerald E. Howard of Olean passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at the Buffalo VA Medical Center following a brief illness.
Jerry was born on September 16, 1947, in Olean and was the son of Robert Henry and Helen Marie Canfield Howard. He was formerly married to Barbara K. Fisher Peters.
Jerry served in the US Navy from October 13, 1964, until June 4, 1968, in Vietnam. He worked at Associated Transport for several years before going to work for the Olean Times Herald in 1974. He retired after 37 years from the Olean Times Herald in 2011 as a foreman in the press room. After he retired, he began working at Cutco as a night watchman from 2012-2022. Jerry enjoyed antiquing, which he was an avid antiquarian since 1983. He was also a life member at the Olean VFW post 1619 and a former member of the Olean St. Stephen’s Club.
Jerry is survived by his three children; Tony D. (Kim) Howard and Amy L. Howard both of Olean, and Katherine A. (Thomas) Lasker of West Seneca, seven grandchildren; Kelsey Howard, Deon Gayton, Marissa Gayton, Stephanie Howard, Aaron Howard, Charles Lasker, and Angela Lasker, one great granddaughter, Clarissa McGhee, three siblings; Larry L. (Cheri) Howard of Portville, Robert Howard of Olean, and Daniel (Joyce Nutt) Howard of Jamestown, many nieces, nephews, and a sister in law, Linda Howard of Allegany.
Jerry was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Allen and Fred Howard, and his stepfather, Owen “Stub” Graves.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from 12:00-2:00pm at which time a memorial service will be held. The Rev. Tim J. Griffith, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Salamanca will officiate. Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery in the Veterans Field of Honor.
