Cuba – Esther M. Knapp “Loving Mother, Grandmother & Sister”

Esther M. Knapp of Genesee Parkway passed away on June 21, 2023, at Olean General Hospital following an illness.

Esther was born on January 21, 1935, in Portville and was the daughter of Frederick and Mildred I. Thomas Metcalf. In 1959 in Ischua she married Donald W. Knapp who predeceased her on October 30, 2008.

Esther was a 1954 graduate of Cuba Central School. She had numerous jobs throughout life, including working at Crosby Poultry Plant for 3 years, the Olean American Tile Plant for a couple years and also Farnsworth Cookies. Esther began working at the Cuba Memorial Hospital in the kitchen as a cook, where she worked for 27 years, retiring in1997. Esther enjoyed cooking, working around her home and in her flower beds. She especially enjoyed taking rides and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Esther was a 50 plus member of the Cuba First Baptist Church and was head of working in the rummage room and in the kitchen for memorial brunches.  

Esther is survived by her 2 children, Steven A. (Audrey) Knapp of Franklinville and Gary L. (Barb) Knapp of Oliver Springs, TN., 6 grandchildren; Debra, Donna, Krista, Michelle, Steve, and Richard, 14 great grandchildren, and her sister Mary Wheaton of Cuba.

Esther was predeceased by her husband Donald, her parents, and a brother Robert B. Metcalf.

Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba on Friday, June 23, 2023, from 5:00-8:00pm. Services will be held at Cuba First Baptist Church on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 1:00pm where the Rev. Claudia Little will officiate.
