Cuba – Elizabeth M. "Betty" Washburn "No Caption, Thank You"
Elizabeth M. "Betty" Washburn, of 5739 Union Valley Road, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at the Cuba Memorial Hospital, following an illness.
Betty was born on July 13, 1931 in Hinsdale and was a daughter of Wallace H. and Martha E. Keech Hamer. She was predeceased by her long-time loving companion Paul H. Appleby on December 23, 2000.
Betty worked at AVX in Cuba for several years before moving to Rochester, where she lived for about 10 years. In Rochester she and Paul worked as managers of a retirement complex. After returning to Cuba, she began working as a nurse's aide for The Pines Health and Rehab in Olean for about 15 years, retiring in 1994. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cuba accepting her Lord and Savior on October 1, 1985. She and Paul were antiquers buying and selling for over 30 years.
Betty is survived by; a step-son, Paul D. (Barbara) Appleby of Arcade; 2 sons, Donald (Tonya) Washburn of Springdale, Arkansas and Raymond Washburn; a step-daughter, Diane (Robert) Foster of Friendship; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; a sister Wendy (Larry) VanMort of Cuba; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Betty was predeceased by; her father; her mother; a son, Randy Washburn; 3 sisters, Helen Hamer, Rose Calhoun, and Barbara Windus; a brother, Robert "Bud" Hamer; and 2 step-sons, Ray H. and Robert A. Appleby.
Friends will be received on Thursday, March 18, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba, where a Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 3:00 pm. The Rev. Alex Freer, Associate Pastor of the Cuba First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Hinsdale Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.LetroMcIntoshSpinkFuneralHome.com.
