Olean – Dorothy Ann "Dottie" Zappia "Loving Wife, Mother, & Grandmother"
Dorothy Ann Zappia, of 108 North 17th Street, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020, at the Buffalo General Hospital, following a brief illness.
Dorothy was born on Sept. 7, 1932 in Kane, PA and was a daughter of Herman David and Beatrice Coudriet Preston. On June 27, 1956, at Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg, PA, she married her husband of 64 years, Joseph A. Zappia, who survives.
Dorothy was a 1950 graduate of Johnsonburg High School. She worked as a secretary for Stackpole Carbon Company. Dorothy and her husband, Joseph, moved to Salamanca after being married and then moved back to Johnsonburg, PA until 1966 when they moved to Olean. She worked as a switchboard operator and receptionist at the St. Frances Hospital for over 10 years, until her retirement in 1988. In her retirement, Dorothy worked for a number of retail stores, including The Gift Shop on Union Street, as well as, the Thrift Store, but the most important job to her was serving the Lord and her family. She was a member of the St. Mary of the Angels Parish in Olean. Dorothy enjoyed and was well known for her beautiful singing voice.
Along with her loving husband, Dorothy is survived by; 2 daughters, Corrine M. (Paul) Gormont of Oak Hill, VA and Kimberlee A. (Jeff) Walters of Cramerton, NC; a granddaughter, Sky G. Gormont; a sister, Karolee (Ralph) Cummings of Johnsonburg, PA; and 5 nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Gwen Smith.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 East State Street, Olean, on Thursday, December 17, 2020 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020, beginning with a prayer service held at 9:30 am at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. The Rev. David Tourville will celebrate. Burial will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Johnsonburg, PA, with The Rev. David Wilson, Pastor of Holy Rosary Parish conducting committal services.
