Allegany- Doreen Elizabeth Vedder “Loving Mother and Business Manager”

Doreen Elizabeth Vedder (Scott) formerly of Laurens Street , Olean of the Field of Dreams, passed away on September 23, 2023 at Olean General Hospital at the age of 85.

Doreen was born May 4, 1938 in Olean, New York the daughter of Charles Frederick and Ruth Harbeck Scott.  In 1989 in Maryland she married the love of her life Richard S. Vedder who predeceased her on June 10, 2014.

Doreen graduated from Cuba Central School class of 1956 where she was Homecoming Queen. She attended Alfred State Business College and obtained her L.P.N. license in 1992. She was Business Office Manager at Cuba Memorial Hospital from 1966 to 1991 and worked in admissions at Scottsdale Hospital in Arizona from 1993 to 2013.

 Doreen was dedicated to her career in the health care industry, working hard until the age of 75. She enjoyed accompanying her husband on travels through the Arizona desert and Capistrano Beach to see the Swallows. She avidly followed the PGA career of close family friend, golfer Michael Allen. A cheerleader in high school and a coach as an adult. 

Doreen was gifted at dancing, roller skating, piano and singing.  She did many performances with Showtime in Cuba and was well liked.  Doreen enjoyed watching gameshows, doing puzzles and exercising.

Doreen is survived by; son, Timothy C.  Hewitt, Kennedy; stepson, Richard S. Vedder, Jr. of Phoenix. AZ; 4 grandchildren, Elizabeth L. (Sean) Hewitt Raible of Warren, PA, Rosalie A. Hewitt of Dewittville, Nolan D. Hewitt, and Ayren H. (Seth) Farrand, both of Cuba; 4 great-grandsons, Owen R. Tipton, Sean Raible, Conner Raible, Colin Raible all of Warren, PA; sibling Caren Lindsay Scott of Wellsville; and her best friend forever, Lisa Scanlon of Olean.

Along with her loving husband Richard, Doreen was predeceased by; her parents; son, Jeffrey L. Hewitt on March 3, 2012; and sister, Jacqueline Scott in 1994. 

Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., on Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at which time a Service will be held.   The Rev. Bill Beck will officiate. Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery.
