Olean- Brenda Jane Maynard “Loving Mother, Grandmother & Sister”

Brenda J. Maynard, 69, of Olean passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, November 24, 2025.

Born on September 15, 1956 in Olean, Brenda was the daughter of William L. and Mary Alice Schieler Maynard. She was formerly married to Richard D. Meadows, and later to Merle H. Walton who predeceased her on June 3, 1994.

Brenda attended Olean High School and graduated from the Olean business Institute. She worked in a great many different roles throughout her life. She lived a life full of exploration and adventure. She worked and traveled extensively across the country. This suited her gypsy spirited nature and allowed her to embrace life in her own way.

Brenda enjoyed crafts, camping, swimming, tubing on the Allegany River and listening to rock and roll music. Brenda strived for an active lifestyle and a healthy diet. She was a member of the YMCA.

What Brenda will be remembered for most is her enormous heart and her beautiful soul. She was the kind of person wo truly would give you the shirt off her back without hesitation. Her own life experiences deepened her empathy, allowing her to truly understand and support people wo were struggling or in need. Her generosity came naturally and people who knew her felt the warmth of her care. She was a survivor and if not for her Guardian Angels, would not have been with us this long. She was brave and determined and made it through many dangerous situations.

Family was the center of her life. She adored her son and grandchildren, and she deeply cherished the bonds she shared with her sister and brother. Her heart always held a special place for the family who have passed, especially her mother, Mary, and her sister Darcy. Her biggest heartache was the tragic loss of her youngest grandson, Matthew, earlier this year. Matthew loved to eat and Brenda was always glad to feed him. There was a special bond between them.

Brenda is survived by her son, Keith James Maynard of Olean; grandchildren, Ashley Lynn Maynard and Jerry James Maynard; great grandchildren; Henry and Malcom; 2 siblings, Jeannie L. (Albert) Cousins of Weston Mills and Christopher J. (Laurie) Maynard of Olean; many nieces and nephews, and the mother of her grandchildren, Michele Butler of Olean.

Along with her husband Merle, Brenda was predeceased by; her parents; a sister, Darcy Lynn Abdo on August 12, 1978; and her grandson Matthew James Maynard on January 25, 2025.

A celebration of life will be held at a date and time to be announced. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean. Online condolences may be made at www.letromcintoshspinkfuneralhome.com
